Formanta Faemi-M, Faemi-1M MIDI kit installation manual

Formanta Faemi-M, Faemi-1M MIDI kit installation manual

This manual fit for Faemi-1m and Faemi-M

Installation:
Select the right place to mount the LED, DIN5 MIDI connector and button on your synth (on the back panel near jacks for example). PCB can be mounted under the keyboard or between aluminum keyboard frame and enclosure (need to cover board with insulation)
Solder wires and try to check working before drilling holes in the enclosure.
By the way, for Faemi-1M good place for LED in the left side of keyboard.

For DIN5 and Learn button and PCB you can use back side of synth, here enough place for it.

Drill dimensions:
DIN5 18mm
LED = 4.8-5mm.(better if less 5mm to strong holding in the hole)
Push button = 12.5-13mm

Board dimensions and distance between holes:
Board dimensions 102x50mm
Holes distance  89x39mm
Holes diameter  3.5mm

Do not allow the board to bend, it can break the board.

All ribbon cables are 120cm long, enough for placing all connections and you can cut extra length. Panic button is not included in the kit. In case of panic - enough turn off and turn on the synth.

The next picture shows the pinout for 8 wire ribbon cable and pin number of wires:
1 - DIN5 4pin
2 - DIN5 5pin
3 - LEARN
4 - GROUND
5 - LED ANODE
6 - RESET
7 - V+
8 - GROUND

(7) V+ and (8) GND should be soldered on the next points:

This picture shown first (1) pin/wire on all connectors: Board pinout and MIDI note: Solder wires to reed-switch for every note and common wire. Faemi-M and Faemi-1M Have same keys range. Solder wires to keycontacts and common bus. Starting from the first octave (left side) wire №7.

One small important thing - use hot glue for fix inserted connectors for protect from disconnection them during vibration when you ride on tour.  Also, fix wires strong. Do not leave them holding only on soldering joints.

At moment when synth power on, all keys will be sound less a half second. If on this moment MIDI commands will received on saved channel it can be cause of panic.
